Land purchased for Allen Park movie studio complex

Associated Press

Allen Park -- The Detroit suburb of Allen Park has closed on its purchase of 104 acres of land for a new movie studio.

The city announced the purchase Friday, a day after the sale closed. It says $25.3 million in long-term general obligation bonds and $3 million in Wayne County Issued Recovery Zone Bonds were sold to finance the purchase.

Ground was broken in August at the site of what is to become Unity Studios & Village. It will include sound stages and other facilities to create and edit movies, television programs and other productions. It originally was slated to open last month.

Allen Park Mayor Gary Burtka says the project hasn't moved forward as quickly as hoped.
