Lions' Turkey Day halftime show goes Motown

The NFL and the Detroit Lions will pay tribute to Motown Records this Nov. 26 -- no, they're not going to sign up Marvin Gaye posthumously. The Motown star, convinced he could help the Lions, tried out for the team in 1970 but was firmly rebuffed by coach Joe Schmidt after a punishing practice.
No, the Motown element will be during the halftime show of the Lions-Green Bay Packers Thanksgiving Day game, when young artists currently signed to Universal-Motown will pay tribute to the Detroit-born record company's 50th anniversary.
The artists Kem, Melanie Fiona, Shontelle, Forever the Sickest Kids and Hal Linton will perform a medley of classic Motown songs.

Another Universal Motown artist, Jadyn Marie, will sing the national anthem before the kickoff.
The game, which marks the 19th time the Lions have hosted the Packers on the November holiday, airs at 12:30 p.m. as the first game of the NFL's Thanksgiving Day tripleheader.
After the halftime performance, fans can download a copy of the medley at nfl.com/thanksgiving. Proceeds will benefit the United Way.
