Better with age: Paris restaurant to auction 1875 wine, 1788 cognac

Four bottles of the 1875 Armagnac Vieux, covered in a black fungus, were unearthed last week from the Tour d'Argent restaurant's labyrinthine wine cellar. The wine and three bottles of 1788 cognac are being sold at a Paris auction.

Paris -- Over the years, the chief sommelier had forgotten they were there. And when the four bottles of 1875 Armagnac Vieux were finally unearthed from the labyrinthine wine cellar last week, they were covered in a black fungus that looked like matted cat fur. - 10/19/2009
