Winds fuel flames of more than a dozen Detroit fires

High Winds fanned a series of home fires on East Robinwood Street in Detroit Tuesday.

Wind gusts of up to 35 mph and low humidity are fueling the flames of several fires throughout the city. The arid conditions, combined with high winds, were reportedly responsible for at least 15 reported fires. - 8:32 pm

Tigers believe Carlos Guillen is done for season

Tigers shortstop Carlos Guillen, on the disabled list since Aug. 17 because of a deep left-knee bruise received in a collision at second base, hasn't improved to the point of participating in baseball activity.

The Tigers aren't expecting the second baseman to return this season. The oft-injured Guillen hit .273 with six home runs and 34 RBIs in 253 at-bats. But he's under contract for $13 million in 2011. - 7:22 pm

U-M just misses spot in AP Top 25 poll

On the heels of Saturday's 30-10 victory over Connecticut, Michigan received 71 points in the latest Associated Press poll and was ranked just behind No. 25 Stanford. Michigan State received two votes and was ranked 42nd. - 7:22 pm
